How To Make Brownies From Scratch

Gone are the days of ever buying a box of brownie mix again! Making brownies from scratch is a skill that everyone should master. Brownies are a perfect staple dessert that can be used for parties, potlucks – you name it! This is a tried-and-true recipe that will yield the perfect pan of brownies every single time.
Making brownies is an incredibly straightforward process. To get started, here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients
- all-purpose flour
- unsweetened cocoa
- granulated cane sugar
- salt
- baking powder
- eggs
- unsalted butter
- coconut oil (or any neutral oil)
- vanilla extract
- espresso powder and semisweet chocolate chips (optional)
Equipment
- a stand mixer (if doing the old-fashioned way, a bowl and a triple-loop batter whisk)
- 9″ x 13″ pan

What’s great about brownies is that you only need one bowl to make them. There’s no need to separate the wet and dry ingredients. If you have a stand mixer, that’s all you need. If not, you can simply do it the old-fashioned way with just a bowl and a triple-loop whisk.

How To Make
First, preheat your oven to 375 degrees F and grease a grease a 9″ x 13″ pan for thinner, edge-heavy brownies, or an 8″ x 8″ for smaller, thicker, fudgy brownies. Next, add all of the ingredients in the order listed above into your bowl and beat until the mixture is smooth. Pour the brownie mixture into your pan and bake for about 25 minutes (until they just slightly pull away from the sides of the pan). Insert a toothpick to ensure cooked through. There shouldn’t be any wet batter. Once finished baking, remove from the oven and let them cool completely before cutting into them.
How To Store Brownies
Brownies will keep at room temperature for about 5-6 days. You can store them beautifully in a glass Pyrex. Freeze them for extended storage.
