Brownies From Scratch

Gone are the days that you ever buy a box of brownie mix again! Here's how to make delicious brownies from scratch.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes
Course: Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (120 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (64 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 3/4 cups (347g) granulated cane sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 8 tablespoons (113g) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) coconut oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (170 grams) semisweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1 tsp espresso powder (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F and grease a 9" x 13" pan for thinner, edge-heavy brownies, or an 8" x 8" for smaller, thicker, fudgy brownies.
  2. Add all of the ingredients in the order listed above into your bowl and beat until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Pour the brownie mixture into your pan and bake for about 25 minutes (until they just slightly pull away from the sides of the pan). Insert a toothpick to ensure cooked through. There shouldn't be any wet batter.
  4. Once finished baking, remove from the oven and let them cool completely before cutting into them.

Notes

Adding espresso powder will yield a richer chocolate flavor to the brownies, as will the semisweet chocolate chips. Customize to your liking or desired outcome. If adding chocolate chips, stir into the batter after everything has been mixed well.
